In this episode, we speak to Saskia Kolff– van Es, a Dutch art historian who writes about contemporary jewellery, on her interest in the meaning people attach to jewellery and the histories behind jewellery materials.
Saskia van Es (Amsterdam, 1972) is an art historian. She writes about contemporary jewellery for Dutch and international platforms. Her fascinations are the meaning people attach to jewellery and the histories behind materials. She has written on the environmental impact of animal materials, plastics, gold, gems, pearls and man-made materials. Currently she is exploring the notion of authorship in jewellery. She was a board member of the Françoise van den Bosch Foundation and runs the website www.saskiavanes.art.
Just some of the topics van Es has written about include the use of organic materials in jewellery and a material stories series on Klimt.
