BAJ students link up with European jewellery schools for London exhibition

As part of BAJ’s international Erasmus project ‘The Future is our Jewel’, BAJ launched an exhibition on Monday at its London campus. The showcase features jewellery made by students at BAJ as well as five other jewellery schools from across the continent to explore the theme of the third and final year of the project: ‘Fire and Future’.

The exhibition, which is open to the BAJ community until September 15, highlights the students’ hard work and the creative development the initiative enabled them to explore. Students were challenged to explore themes of sustainability in jewellery as well as the project’s values of equality, tolerance, and union. They shared experiences and culture with their international peers and learnt about the jewellery industry in different parts of Europe.

The exhibition has already toured around Europe. The travelling showcase has given BAJ students the opportunity to exhibit their work internationally and its most recent stop was at Porto in Portugal.

Along with BAJ, the five other jewellery schools participating in the Erasmus project are Mokume Art Studies in Thessaloniki, Greece; D.I.E.K. Volos in Volos, Greece; Escola Artística Soares Dos Reis in Porto, Portugal; Escola Foral V. Melchiorre in Valenza, Italy; and Escuela de Arte  3 in Madrid, Spain.

About ‘The Future is our Jewel’

The three-year project “The Future is our Jewel” brings together six European partner schools around a common formation in the creation of jewelery, but whose cultural, heritage and professional histories are multiple. By working alongside their peers from other countries, students gain an understanding of the jewellery industry’s nuances across countries and share inspiration with their international peers.

A fundamental pillar of the programme is to promote sustainable jewellery, in terms of the environmental field and social ethics. By seeking solutions for more sustainable work models, students prepare to lead the future in jewellery.
